Blue Devils Open Season at Rams Invitational with First Collegiate Wins

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The UW-Stout women's tennis team kicked off the 2025–26 season this past weekend at the Rams Invitational, hosted by Cornell College. The Blue Devils faced three strong opponents in two days, highlighted by the first collegiate wins for Prajna Hosamane, Gretchen Murphy, and Allie Adrian.

Friday – Edgewood University 7, UW-Stout 0

Stout opened its season against Edgewood University, the reigning Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) champions and NCAA tournament qualifier. Despite the 7-0 final score, the Blue Devils competed closely in doubles, nearly stealing the opening point.

At the top of the lineup, Molly Garber pushed her opponent to a decisive tiebreaker at #1 singles, while Aspen Johnson battled through a tight 5-7, 4-6 loss at #3 singles. The early test against the Eagles set the tone for a resilient weekend.

Saturday – UW-Stout 5, Buena Vista University 2

The Blue Devils bounced back in their second match of the weekend, picking up their first team win of the season over Buena Vista.

Doubles play provided the early momentum. Megan Kokesh and Aspen Johnson rolled to a 6-0 victory at #3 doubles, while the #1 pairing of Hosamane and Garber clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win. The victory marked Hosamane's first collegiate win.

In singles, Stout captured four of six matches. Lindsay Leuzinger, Murphy, Kokesh, and Adrian all earned straight-set wins to seal the match. The victories for Murphy and Adrian were the first of their collegiate careers.

Saturday – Cornell College 6, UW-Stout 1

Stout closed the weekend against a strong Cornell College squad. The Blue Devils once again played a competitive doubles point but fell just short, entering singles play down 0-1.

Senior Ashlyn Dellemann supplied Stout's lone point of the match with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at her singles position. Both Leuzinger and Murphy nearly added to the tally, each falling in tight tiebreakers at #4 and #5 singles.

The Blue Devils return home to host Crown College in their 2025–26 home opener on Friday, September 5, at 4 p.m.
