MENOMONIE - May 4, 2025 - The UW-Stout Blue Devils softball team faced off against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader at Alumni Field. The Warhawks, ranked among the top teams in the conference, swept the Blue Devils with final scores of 3-1 in Game 1 and 13-3 in Game 2.
Game 1: UW-Whitewater 3, UW-Stout 1
In the opening game, The Blue Devils fell in a close game. UW-Whitewater broke the scoreless tie in the third inning, getting the leadoff batter aboard on an error, who came around to score on a single to center. The Warhawks added another run in the fourth, leading off with a bunt single and scoring on a infield single to take a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils cut the lead to one in the sixth when Rayni Bresnahan stole home to trail 2-1. Whitewater added an insurance run the seventh getting a two-out single to lead 3-1.
The Blue Devils' Anna Blanford pitched a complete game striking out four and allowing two earned runs in the loss.
Game 2: UW-Whitewater 13, UW-Stout 3
The second game saw UW-Whitewater jump out to an early lead en route to a 13-3 victory in six innings.
The first six Warhawks reached base safely as UWW jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. UW-Stout answered in the bottom of the first when Payton Dolecki scored on a steal of home making it 4-1.
The Warhawks extended their lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third. Stephanie Kuhn drove in Donna D'Addabbo with an RBI double in the third and added another RBI in the fifth via a fielder's choice, bringing the score to 8-3. However, UW-Whitewater scored five in the sixth to take a 13-3 lead.
