Blue Devils Open Season with Thrilling 12-11 Victory Over MSOE

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stout women's lacrosse team kicked off the 2025 season in thrilling fashion, edging out MSOE 12-11 in a nail-biting home opener at Nelson Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (1-0) set the tone early, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime behind a strong offensive showing from Mai Nou Vang and Maddy Nuttall, who each recorded hat tricks. Riley Schulte added two goals, while Megan Palmer, Lilly Thomas, Brinley Tonn, and Loryn Tornell also found the back of the net.

Despite trailing by five heading into the fourth quarter, MSOE (0-3) mounted a furious comeback, outscoring Stout 6-2 in the final frame. The Raiders' Lilly Johnson led all scorers with five points (three goals, two assists), and Joce Katte, Vayda Flower, and Ashlyn Bode each contributed two goals.

Stout Holds Off Late MSOE Push

The Blue Devils capitalized on key offensive opportunities, converting 2-of-5 free-position shots, and controlled possession with a 15-12 advantage in draw controls. Vang, Palmer, and Schulte each secured three draw controls, helping Stout maintain its edge throughout the game.

Defensively, goalkeeper Emilia Bullock was a force in net, making 18 saves to keep MSOE at bay. The Blue Devils also picked up 28 ground balls, with Brinley Tonn and Briana Brenteson leading the effort.

Despite committing 34 turnovers, Stout's aggressive play and early offensive momentum proved to be the difference, as they fended off MSOE's late push to secure the one-goal victory.
