SCRANTON, Pa. – The UW-Stout women's basketball team continued its historic postseason run, defeating conference rival UW-Whitewater 62-56 in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 on Friday night at the John Long Center. With the victory, the Blue Devils (22-7) advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history, where they will face the University of Scranton on Saturday.
Raegan Sorensen led the charge for Stout with a dominant performance, scoring a game-high 25 points while adding 13 rebounds and four steals. Anna Mutch provided crucial support, tallying 19 points on an efficient 6-of-15 shooting, while also going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
The Blue Devils took control early, holding a 27-21 lead at halftime. Whitewater (24-7) fought back in the third quarter, outscoring Stout 18-16 to trim the deficit, but the Blue Devils responded in the fourth, using a 19-point final period to seal the win.
A strong defensive effort played a key role, as Stout forced 15 turnovers and held Whitewater to just 17.6% shooting from beyond the arc (3-of-17). The Warhawks' Kacie Carollo led her team with 23 points and 13 rebounds, but Stout's defensive pressure limited Whitewater to 35.5% shooting overall.
With the win, Stout moves on to face host Scranton in the Elite Eight on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET, with a Final Four berth on the line.
