WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stout men's basketball team battled early but couldn't keep pace with UW-Whitewater, falling 87-69 in a WIAC road contest Saturday evening at the Williams Center.
The Blue Devils (7-14, 3-7 WIAC) started strong, keeping the Warhawks (10-11, 4-6 WIAC) within striking distance in the first half. A late push by Whitewater gave the hosts a 48-39 halftime lead. In the second half, Stout struggled to generate offensive momentum, while the Warhawks capitalized on efficient shooting and strong free-throw performance to extend their advantage.
Walczak Leads Blue Devils
Jacob Walczak paced UW-Stout with 18 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He also went 5-of-10 from the free-throw line. Justin Nelson provided a solid presence off the bench, adding 10 points and six rebounds, while Mason Stoik and Brenden Weis each chipped in six and five points, respectively.
Collin Vick was a force on the glass, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds while also dishing out an assist and recording a steal. However, Stout struggled with turnovers, committing 14 compared to Whitewater's 11.
Whitewater Takes Control
The Warhawks were led by Carter Capstran and Collin Madson, who each scored 18 points. Madson was perfect from the free-throw line, going 11-for-11, while Capstran shot 8-of-11 from the field. Luke Bara added 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers.
Whitewater outshot Stout across the board, finishing at 50% (30-of-60) from the field compared to Stout's 41.8% (23-of-55). The Warhawks also controlled the free-throw line, making 20-of-25 (80%) while Stout converted just 18-of-34 (52.9%).
