MENOMONIE, Wis. – In front of a packed and energetic Johnson Fieldhouse crowd, the UW-Stout women's basketball team delivered a statement victory, knocking off No. 11 UW-Oshkosh, 72-63, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Blue Devils finish the regular season 19-6 overall and 10-4 in WIAC play, securing the No. 2 seed for the upcoming WIAC Tournament.
From the opening tip, the energy in the building was electric, and the Blue Devils fed off the crowd's enthusiasm. Stout took a slim 17-16 lead after the first quarter and carried a 33-30 advantage into halftime. The pivotal moment came in the third quarter when the Blue Devils outscored the Titans 21-18, extending their lead heading into the final period.
The Blue Devils' balanced offensive attack proved to be too much for Oshkosh. Raegan Sorensen led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds, while Amanda Giesen contributed 19 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting performance. Anna Mutch added 15 points and six assists to help keep the offense flowing.
Stout's defense was relentless, forcing 13 Oshkosh turnovers and converting them into 16 points. The Blue Devils also held the Titans to just 42 percent shooting from the field, while knocking down 53 percent of their own shots. A key factor in the victory was Stout's ability to get to the free-throw line, where they converted 13-of-16 attempts.
As the final buzzer sounded, the crowd erupted in celebration, recognizing not only the team's hard-fought victory but also their impressive season that now sets them up for a deep postseason run.
The game also served as Senior Night, as Stout honored its eight seniors: Raegan Sorensen, Sam Schaeffer, Amanda Giesen, Elissa Lodermeier, Anna Mutch, Lexi Wagner, Allison Letcher, and Sophie Moran. The seniors were recognized for their contributions to the program after the game.
