Blue Devils Sweep Northland College With 5-1 Win

ASHLAND, Wis. (Feb. 1, 2025) – UW-Stout put on a commanding performance on the road, skating past Northland College with a 5-1 victory on Saturday night. The Blue Devils struck early and often, showcasing a classy offensive attack while shutting down the LumberJacks for most of the contest.

Tristan Therrien got the scoring started for UW-Stout (11-8-2, 4-6-1) just 6:49 into the first period, setting the tone for the night. Less than a minute later, Hayden Stocks netted what would stand as the game-winning goal, giving the Blue Devils an early 2-0 lead. Tyler Pfister extended the lead to 3-0 before the first intermission.

The Blue Devils continued their dominance in the second period with power-play goals from Jacob Halvorson and Stocks, pushing the advantage to 5-0. Sophomore forward Nicolas Pigeon was the catalyst for the UW-Stout offense, dishing out four assists in a standout playmaking performance.

Goaltender Tyler Masternak was solid between the pipes, stopping 20 of 21 shots faced, with the only blemish coming in the third period when Northland's John Leppert found the back of the net.

UW-Stout's special teams played a key role, converting twice on the power play while holding Northland scoreless on seven man-advantage opportunities.

With the win, the Blue Devils gain momentum heading into a crucial home series next weekend. UW-Stout will return to Fanetti Community Center to host 11th-ranked UW-Superior on Friday, February 7th at 7 p.m.
