MENOMONIE, Wis. (November 5, 2025) – The UW-Stout volleyball team battled throughout the night but came up short against UW-La Crosse, falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 16-25, 24-26) in a WIAC matchup at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Brooke McCune led the Blue Devils with 18 kills while hitting .320 and added nine digs and two service aces. Emma Barton was also a force at the net, finishing with 14 kills on a .444 hitting percentage. Setter Lainey Todd ran the offense efficiently, distributing 26 assists and collecting nine digs, while Nadia Marchionda added 16 assists and 10 digs. Libero Kailey Kline anchored the back row with a match-high 25 digs.
After dropping the opening set 25-21, Stout responded with an impressive 25-19 win in set two, fueled by a .378 hitting percentage and balanced play from McCune, Barton, and Kyra Giffen. The Blue Devils couldn't maintain momentum in the third, hitting just .081 as the Eagles reclaimed control with a 25-16 win.
The fourth set saw 11 ties and five lead changes, with Stout rallying late to tie the score at 24 before La Crosse closed it out 26-24 to secure the match.
As a team, Stout finished with 51 kills and hit .205 while totaling 78 digs and six service aces. Brynn Hessel added six kills and five block assists at the net, and Sloan Horgan chipped in six kills and two blocks.
The loss drops UW-Stout to 17-9 overall and 2-5 in WIAC play, while UW-La Crosse moves to 20-11 and 2-5 in conference action.
