Home Runs Lift Blue Devils to Series Split with Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Blue Devils split a pair of seven inning non-conference games with Bethel University Saturday afternoon. Stout fell 13-8 and won 11-5.

GAME ONE
Jacoby Endreas was 3-4 with two home runs and three RBI, but a seven-run fifth inning helped the Bethel Royals rally to a 13-8 win in game one.  Stout took the lead in the top of the second when Endreas led off the inning with a homer to left. Jack Redwine and Jack Schirpke singled and Drew Ries singled to load the bases. Leyton Bowers hit a sac fly to center to score Redwine and Vinnie Fonti hit an infield single to score Schirpke to give Stout a 3-0 lead. Endreas hit a two-run shot to center in the third to give Stout a 5-0 lead. Bethel tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Royals hit two two-run homers with two outs to knot the game up at five. The Royals broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. With two-outs, Bethel got three straight RBI singles followed by a three-run homer to score seven in the inning and take a 12-5 lead. Stout and Bethel traded runs in the sixth.  Justin Sedin scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh, Schirpke hit an RBI single to score Endreas to make the score 13-8 but that was as close as Stout would get at the Royals took game one. Schirpke was 3-4 and Fonti and Sedin each had two hits.

GAME TWO
The Riley Boushack hit two of Stout's four home runs to power the Blue Devils to a 11-5 win and split the series.
Boushack hit his seventh round-tripper of the season with tow-outs in the first, a solo shot to right center to give Stout an early 1-0 lead. Leyton Bowers led off the second with a homer to left center to double the Stout lead. Bethel got a run back in the bottom of the second with a sac fly. Justin Sedin led off the third with a walk and Boushack followed with his second homer of the game and eighth of the year to give the Blue Devils a 4-1 advantage. AJ Kargel continued the home run party for the Blue Devils with a two-run shot to right to build a 6-1 lead in the fourth. Stout broke the game open in the fifth, Bowers singled to right to lead off the inning. Nolan Harke drew a walk and Drew Ries loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch. Bowers scored on a balk to make the score 7-1. Brandt Puzak drove in Harke on a sac fly to center. Sedin hit a two-out two-run double to right center build the Stout lead to 10-1. The first four Bethel batter reached in the bottom of the sixth, but the Royals only scored two runs to get within 10-3. Puzak hit an RBI single in the seventh to drive in the Blue Devils final run. The Royals scored two in the bottom of the seventh. Drew Buss struck out five over six innings allowing just two earned runs to pick up his fifth win of the season. Sedin, Boushack, Bowers, and Puzak each had two hits for the Blue Devils.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will close out the regular season tomorrow, Sunday, May 5, when they face Augsburg University at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
