MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout women's lacrosse team opened WIAC play with a 17-2 loss to UW-La Crosse Wednesday night at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (3-5, 0-1) fell behind 4-0 to the Eagles (7-2, 1-0) after the first quarter. UWL scored the next four in the second quarter before
Mai Nou Vang scored her 11th of the season midway through to make the score 8-1. But the Eagles would score four more in the final 4:36, including two in the final 45 seconds to take a 12-1 halftime lead. Stout would score first in the third on
Abigail Todey's first of the season at the 7:38 mark. But La Crosse scored again with 43 seconds left to take a 13-2 lead into the final quarter. UWL would go on to add four more in the final 15 to win 17-2.
UWL out shot Stout 34-18 and 25-13 shots on goal. Both teams had 16 turnovers and UWL held a slight edge on ground balls, 20-15. The Blue devils were 14 of 20 on clear attempts and La Crosse was 17 of 23.
