Blue Devils Win WIAC Tournament 77-65 Over Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stout Blue Devils defeated UW-Oshkosh 77-65 to win the WIAC Tournament Championship Friday night.

Raegan Sorensen led all scorers with 21 points, she pulled down 13 rebounds to secure her 14th double-double of the season. To help Stout with their first Tournament Championship since 2007.

Amanda Geisen scored 16 points and six rebounds and Lexi Wagner scored 15 as Stout shot 50 percent from the field 25-50, and 9-18 from 3-point range.
Stout led from the opening tip, Wagner hit a triple just 13 seconds into the game and Stout never looked back.  Stout was 8-12 shooting in the opening quarter and 4-4 from beyond the arc to take a 24-11 lead into the second quarter.

Stout opened the second quarter on 7-0 run to build a 20-point lead. Oshkosh chipped away at the lead late in the quarter but Giesen hit an and-1 layup with 2.2 seconds left to give Stout a 43-32 halftime lead. Stout led by 11 despite shooting 33 percent in the quarter and going 1-7 from deep.

Oshkosh opened the third on a bit of a run trimming the Blue Devil advantage to four with 7:15 left in the quarter.

Wagner hit a mid-range jumper and Schaeffer connected on a trey after Giesen hit two free-throws and Stout was back up by 11 just 1:25 later.
Wagner hit back-to-back treys to keep the double-digit lead for Stout, but Oshkosh closed on a 7-0 run and Stout lead 58-53 heading into the fourth. Stout was 60 percent from the field. 

Giesen opened the fourth with a triple in front of the Blue Devil bench and Sorensen scored three-straight baskets to answer the Titans attempt at a rally. Rosella Wille and Anna Mutch hit consecutive jumpers to put give Stout a commanding 14 point advantage with 4:11 left to play and Sorensen iced the game with an three-point play with 1:35 left in regulation to put an exclamation point on the championship.

Sam Schaeffer had seven points, six assists, and three blocks. Stout outrebounded the Titans 34-26 and had 17 assists on 25 made field goals.

The Blue Devils receive the WIAC automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA tournament. Stout will learn of their opponent on the NCAA selection show on Monday, Feb. 26 1:30 p.m.
