MENOMONIE – The Blue Devils fell 33-31 to No. 21 UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon at Willaims Stadium.

UW-La Crosse (5-3, 3-2) kicked a 25-yard field goals with 55 seconds left to give the Eagles a 33-31 come from behind win over Stout (5-3, 3-2).

Stout led 21-10 late in the second quarter but couldn't keep pace with UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville atop the WIAC standings and fell into a three-way tie for second place.

After stalling on their first drive, Stout went 64 yards in six plays to take the early 7-0 lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Adam Moen to Tucker Haakonson.

UWL had a big run play to set themselves up inside the redzone, but the defense held and forced a field goal. Stout then marched down the field in 10 plays covering 75 yards to take a 14-3 led on a Chase Hughes one-yard score.

La Crossed scored on their own one-yard score to cap off a 12-play drive to cut the lead to 14-10. The teams traded punts before Stout extended the lead with a 29-yard touchdown catch by Patrick Corcoran with 1:54 left in the first half.

La Crosse executed a two-minute drive, kicking a 46-yard field goal with two seconds left to lead into the halftime locker room trailing by eight at 21-13.

La Crosse used the momentum to score on their opening drive of the third quarter to pull within one at 21-20.

The teams traded punts, and Stout got the ball back at their own four-yard line. Two play later UWL took the lead on a safety with Moen was sacked in the endzone.

Stout forced a punt and retook the lead when Luke Cool made a career-long 48-yard field goal to give Stout a 24-22 edge.

Two drives later, La Crosse scored on a 72-yard pass and catch, and after a successful two-point conversion, led 30-24 with 8:32 left to play.

Stout responded right away with a seven play 65-yard dive. Haakonson scored his second of the game, this time from nine yards out to put Stout ahead 31-30 with 4:49 eft in regulation.

The Eagles moved the ball down field and kicked the go-ahead field goal with 55 left on the clock.

An 18-yard return on the kickoff set up Stout at their own 31 yard line. Stout moved the ball into UWL territory, but a sack cause a last second desperation throw that was intercepted inside the 10 as time expired.

Moen finished 27-41 for 323 yards and three touchdowns with 25 yards rushing. Haakonson had seven catches of 113 yards and two scores.
