MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout women's soccer team (3-2-2) battled Bethel University (3-1-2) to a 1-1 tie Thursday night.
Lauren Chukel scored early in the second half and Kristen Zilenzi made eight saves as the Blue Devils tied Bethel in their home opener.
Bethel's Hannah Kvant scored in the second minute to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead. Bethel attempted nine shots in the first half with four on target. Stout attempted six with two on target. The Blue Devils had a great chance to tie the game but their shot rang off the bar for a Bethel goal kick.
Stout drew even in the 51st minute when Chukel took a
Ava Tomas pass from the top of the box and buried it high past the keeper.
Both teams had good looks scoring the go ahead goal but couldn't find the back of the net.
Bethel attempted 19 shots and Silenzi made eight saves on the nine that were on target. Stout attempted 10 shots with five on goal.
The start of the game was delayed an hour due to lightning.
