Blue Devils Pull Away Late for 72-59 Win Over Puget Sound

The Basics

Location: Zorn Arena - Eau Claire, Wis.

Five Blue Devils scored in double-figures as Stout used a big second half to pull away from Puget Sound to improve to 2-0. Raegan Sorensen led Stout with 16 points and Amanda Giesen had a 12 point, 12 rebound double double and Stout got timely three point shooting to get the win.
After falling behind 5-0 early, Stout responded and led by as much as seven before leading 21-18 after 10 minutes. Stout extended the lead to eight, but Puget Sound chipped away and tied the game at 28. UPS retook the lead at 31-30, Giesen gave Stout the lead at 32-31 with 100 seconds left in the half. The teams would go back and forth in the third, UPS would lead by three a couple of times. Clutch free-throws late in the third gave Stout the two point lead and Sa Schaeffer drilled a triple with five seconds left to give Stout a five point advantage heading into the fourth. Schaeffer and Sorensen scored quickly to open the fourth and Stout led by 10. UPS tried to cut the lead down but could only get within five, as Stout would regain the double digit lead.

  • Raegan Sorensen scored a 16 points to lead the Blue Devils. She added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
  • Amanda Giesen recorded a 12 point-12 rebound double double. She added three assists,
  • Anna Mutch had 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
  • Rosella Wille scored a career-high 13 points on 6-10 shooting. She pulled down five rebounds. 
  • Sam Schaeffer scored 11 points. 
  • Kennedy Brown scored 31 for the Loggers.

  • Both teams scored nine second chance points, UPS had 20 offensive rebounds, Stout had 13. 
  • Stout controlled the paint, outscoring the Loggers 34-16.
  • Stout was 6-22 from 3-point range while Puget Sound was 10-33
