MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout women's soccer team fell 1-0 to St. Catherine in a hard fought battle Wednesday at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (3-5-2) gave up a goal in the 63rd minute as St. Kates (10-2-0) finally was able to push a shot past
Kristen Silenzi who finished with nine saves for the Blue Devils. St. Catherine peppered Stout with 25 total shots but the Blue Devils and Silenzi stood firm.
Stout totaled just two shot attempts in the first half, but kept St. Kates flustered forcing most of their shots off target. The Blue Devils opened the second with a couple of good looks, forcing the Wildcats goalkeeper to make two saves. The game remained scoreless after an hour of play, but in the 63rd minute a failed clear attempt by Stout allowed St. Kates to keep possession just outside the 18-yard box,a couple of passes and deflections later the ball bounced to a St. Kates who buried the ball high into the right corner of the goal.
Stout had a couple of opportunities late and were just a touch away from getting a quality shot on target but St. Kates was able to deny the Blue Devils the chance to get the equalizer.
Silenzi and Olson Combined for 10 saves on 11 shots on target. Stout attempted nine shots with six on target.
