ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 7, 2022) - UW-Stout gave Blue Devil coach
Ben Staupe his first Stout win with a convincing 3-0 win at Hamline University Wednesday. The Blue Devils won the match, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16.
The Blue Devils (1-4) posted a resounding .375 hitting percentage as Stout pounded out 44 kills to 25 for the Pipers (0-4). Stout was also convincing at the serving line, putting down seven service aces with
Sidney Hoverman (Jr, St. Croix Falls) recording two and five other Blue Devils getting one. In contrast, Stout allowed only one service ace by Hamline.
Hoverman led Stout on the attack, recording 15 kills, with only three errors on 34 attacks.
Caroline Braun (Sr, Mantorville, Minn) had nine kills. Setter
Kennedy Barrett (So, Duluth, Minn) finished with 31 assists and finished with five kills.
The win came on the same day that Rock Valley College announced that Staupe would be inducted into the junior college's athletic hall of fame in December. Staupe spent eight seasons as head coach at Rock Valley College in Illinois. Posting a combined record of 110-30 in his last three seasons, he guided RVC to conference championships in each campaign.
The Blue Devils return to St. Paul this weekend when they participate in the St. Catherine's Invitational Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10.
