Blue Devils Drop Two at Wartburg tournament

WAVERLY, IOWA –  The Blue Devils dropped a pair of matches to open the Wartburg Invitational tournament Friday night.
Stout fell to the host Wartburg in four sets before falling in a five-set thriller to Coe College. UW-Stout is now 8-8 on the season. Stout will close out the tournament tomorrow Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. against Concordia-Moorhead.

GAME 1
UW-Stout 1 – Wartburg 3 (25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 16-25)

The Blue Devils started the tournament out on the right foot, using a 12-2 to break open a tight first set. After Stout scored the first point of the second set, Wartburg responded by scoring the next 11 straight to set the tone for the rest of the set. Wartburg edged the Blue Devils in a close third set and jumped out to a large lead early in the fourth to take the match.

Top Performers
  • Sidney Hoverman had 18 kills, hit .240 and had 13 digs to lead the Blue Devils
  • Terrah Moshier had a team-high 22 digs.
  • Kennedy Barrett had 34 assists and 13 digs.
  • Allison Feigenbaum had 10 kills and hit .455 for Wartburg.

  • Stout hit .109 and totaled 67 digs, While Wartburg hit .194 and had 74 digs
  • Wartburg had five players record double-digit digs.


GAME 2
UW-Stout 2 – Coe College 3 (22-25, 25-20, 33-31, 14-25, 8-15)

The Blue Devils fell in a back-and-forth affair. Coe closed the first set on a 14-5 run to stun Stout in the first set. Stout responded in the second set using a 6-2 run to even the match at one. Stout was able to edge Coe in a marathon of a third set 33-31 both teams had four chances to win before a kill by Hoverman and Jessica Barr sealed the set for the Blue Devils. Coe responded by quickly taking the fourth set to force the decisive fifth. The Blue Devils were unable to get the offense going falling by a score of 15-8.

  • Stout hit .148 and totaled 68 digs, While Coe hit .200 and had 85 digs.
  • Both teams had 22 attacking errors and 10 service errors.
