UW-Stout Scholar-Athlete Program
MENOMONIE (March 30, 2022) - Thirty UW-Stout senior scholar-athletes were honored Wednesday, March 30, in an awards ceremony that also recognized 178 underclass scholar-athletes in Memorial Student Center.
Those scholar-athletes honored were: Jacob Alexander (Kewaskum), Elise Banitt (Prescott), Jace Baumann (Mosinee), Mekenzie Bisel (Northfield, Minn), Caylee Boone (Eau Claire), Jacob Bugella (Rice Lake), Jon Ciriacks (East Troy), Riley Crotteau (Rice Lake), Anna Hall (Lakeville, Minn), Korin Hall (Farmington, Minn), Rayshawn Graham (Blue Island, Ill), Isabella Jewell (Auburndale), Matthew Johnson (Plymouth, Minn), Shannon Jones (Watertown), Mariah Kent (Eau Claire), Madee Kleinschmidt (Edgerton), Logan Koneczny (Hermantown, Minn), Mariah Lang (Kenyon, Minn), Grace Maurer (Rogers, Minn), Haydon Miller (Zimmerman, Minn), Addison Murry (Kasson, Minn), Alex Nagel (Antigo), Daniel Nesja (Mount Horeb), Lizzy Olsem (St. Charles, Ill), Megan Richardson (Maple Grove, Minn), Matthew Ryan (Oconomowoc), Drew Scott (Prairie du Chien), Tomi Varjonen (Helsinki, Finland), Paul Weise (Wausau), Lexie Wescott (Lake Geneva), Warren Williams (Barron).
The UW-Stout Scholar Athlete Award is given to student-athletes with a cumulative 3.50 grade point average in the semester preceding their final season of eligibility.
This is the 11th year of the UW-Stout Scholar-Athlete program, which was instituted by UW-Stout Athletic Faculty Representatives (FAR)
Brian Finder and former FAR Jo Hopp in 2012. The program has grown from 18 senior scholar-athletes and 76 underclassmen during the first year of the program to this year's 31 senior scholar-athletes and 178 underclassmen.
Participating in the ceremony were Chancellor Katherine Frank; Glendali Rodriguez, interim provost; and
Duey Naatz, director of athletics.
After the fall of 2021 semester 177 student-athletes posted over a 3.50 and 27 carried a 4.0 grade point average. The Blue Devil student-athletes compiled a 3.27 cumulative grade point average and for the 12th consecutive year had a cumulative grade point average higher than the general student body.
The medallion presented to each of the senior Scholar-Athletes was designed by former Blue Devil student-athletes Kate Mikutowski and Zak Snell. In addition, a large action poster of each senior Scholar-Athlete will be displayed in the Sports and Fitness Center during the upcoming year.
The Scholar Athlete Award program is supported by the offices of the Chancellor and Academic and Student Affairs.
