MENOMONIE (February 9, 2022) - The UW-Stout football team recently handed their 2021 team awards at their annual end-of-the-season banquet.
Junior quarterbackÂ
Sean Borgerding (Spring Valley, Wis. / Spring Valley) was awarded the Offensive Most Valuable Player Award. Borgerding finished the 2021 season with 2881 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns. The quarterback also recorded two rushing touchdowns. Borgerding was an All-WIAC honorable mention selection. Borgerding served as a team captain for his third year.
The Defensive Most Valuable Player Award went to sophomore safety
Cannon Griner (Mesa, AZ / Red Mountain). Griner recorded four interceptions and seven pass breakups, as well as leading the team with 86.0 tackles. Griner was a second team all-WIAC pick.Â
SophomoreÂ
Jacob Foss (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie) was given the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award. Foss started all 10 games and was a second team All-WIAC selection in his first year as a starter.Â
Freshman offensive lineman
Luke Mertens (Easton, Minn. / Blue Earth) was awarded the Newcomer Award. Mertens appeared in all 10 games and started the final four games.Â
Sophomore safety
Mason Priebe (Menasha, Wis. / Appleton East) was awarded the WE-US-OUR award. Priebe recorded 36.0 tackles this season, as well as three interceptions and four pass break-ups. Priebe was also a team captain.
Freshman
Jack Meyer (Chippewa Falls, Wis. / Chippewa Falls) was awarded the Special Teams Award. Meyer was 7 for 11 in field goals which includes a long of 52 and 51 yards. As the team punter, Meyer averaged 37.2 yards per boot with a long of 70 yards. Meyer was an all-WIAC honorable mention selection.
The Scout Offensive and Scout Defensive awards were handd out to RB
Chase Hughes (Fremont, Wis. / Hortonville) and Safety
Carl Reina (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley). Hughes and Reina are both freshman for this year's team.
