UW-Whitewater 81, UW-Stout 67
MENOMONIE (February 12, 2020) - Foul trouble on both sides spelled out a long game, but UW-Whitewater was the team that came out on top, 81-67. Stout fought hard on senior night, but it wasn't quite enough to take down the Warhawks on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Filedhouse.
Stout (15-8, 6-6 WIAC) got on the board quick, jumping out to a quick 11-point lead in the first half (24-13), but Whitewater (14-9, 7-5 WIAC) bounced back with a 12-point run to finish out the half. This 12-point run pulled Whitewater ahead before halftime, 40-35. The Warhawks continued their run into the second half, jumping out to their biggest lead of 15. Stout was able to close the gap a bit, but the closest they got was within five points.
The Warhawks were led by Derek Gray, who finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds. Gray found his way to the line often, finishing 13 for 14. Gage Malensek and Trevon Chislom added 12 and 10.
Stout had four players in double digits,
Armani Tinsley and
Lovell Williams each had 14 while
Brody Fox and
Armani Tinsley added 12 each. Tinsley heated up from deep, making four out of five three pointers. Tyresse recorded his first double-double of the season as he also pulled down 11 rebounds. Williams recorded seven assists.
As a team the Blue Devils shot 43-percent from the floor (23 for 54) while the Warhawks shot 45-percent (24 for 53). From the line, the Warhawks made 30 out of 35 shots, while Stout wasn't as succesful, going 15 for 27.
The Blue Devils will head out on the road for their last regular season game against UW-La Crosse. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.
