UW-Platteville 93, UW-Stout 86
PLATTEVILLE (January 8, 2022) - UW-Stout rallied from a 12-point deficit with about five minutes left to play to pull to within three points in the final 93 seconds, but could not find the key to get past second ranked UW-Platteville and the Pioneers defeated the Blue Devils, 93-86, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers took an 82-70 lead on Ben Probst's 3-point shot. The team's traded baskets and Stout's
Lovell Williams pulled the Blue Devils to within eight points,83-75, with a 3-pointer at 3:46. After falling back 85-75 with 3:18 remaining, Stout outscored Platteville 9-2 over the next one-minute, 45-seconds to trail 87-84.
The free throw line was not friendly tonight for the Pioneers who shot 17 of 30 from the line. But the line would be a friendly enough for the Pioneers in the final 1:06 of the game, where they made 6 of 10 free throws..
Williams led all scorers with 22 points.
Armani Tinsley contributed 18 points and
Brody Fox 15 for the Blue Devils. Platteville had a balanced attack of six players in double figures, led by Quentin Shield's 17 points. Kyle Tuma had 16 points, Ben Probst and Logan Pearson 15 points apiece, Justin Stovall 13 and Blake McCann 10.
Stout shot 51.6 percent (33-64) for the game, hitting 6 of 18 3-pointers, and drained 82.4 percent (14-17) of their free throws. Stout held a 35-29 advantage off the glass.
The Pioneers hit 48.5 percent (32-66) from the field and dropped in 12 of 28 3-pointers.
Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Jan 12 at 7 p.m., then will host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m.
