UW-River Falls 67, UW-Stout 63
MENOMONIE (January 26, 2022) - The Blue Devils shot out from the tip for a nice first-quarter lead, but UW-River Falls used big second and third quarter runs to chip away at the Stout's lead. The Falcons continued the pressure into the fourth, which saw them coming away with the 67-64 win on Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (10-8, 5-3) put on a show in the first quarter, making a majority of their shots and connecting on three big three-pointers. This shooting pushed the Blue Devils on a 12-0 run to end the first quarter. River Falls (9-8, 2-6) was unable to find the basket only scoring seven points in the first quarter.
The Falcon's shots started to fall in the second quarter, where leading scorer, Macy Nilsen, made four three pointers. This put the Falcons only down by two points (32-30) at half. The third quarter was up and down for both teams, as it started to look like it was going to be a very close game. River Falls took a four-point lead (48-44) heading into the fourth quarter.
Stout was able to close the lead, but River Falls connected on some key free throws down the stretch to take away Stout's hopes of their third game in the row with a game-winning shot in the final seconds.
Macy Nilsen finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons. Jenna Zeman also chipped in 14 points of her own.
Stout saw four players with double digits,
Anna Mutch (15),
Lauren Arenz (13),
Sam Schaeffer (12), and
Amanda Giesen (10). Arenz also recorded eight rebounds and finished 4-7 from behind the arc.
The Blue Devils will be back in action next Wednesday, heading out on the road to face Stevens Point. They will return to Johnson Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 5, to take on UW-Oshkosh for Alumni Day.
