Stout comes up short in non-conference contest at Viterbo

Viterbo University 2, UW-Stout 1

LA CROSSE (September 25, 2021) - All of the scoring in this contest came in less than an eight minute span early in the second half as UW-Stout fell in a non-conference contest, 2-1, at Viterbo University Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the V-Hawks' (6-2-0) Abigail Mumm scored in the 50th minute, assisted by Jenna Bennett.

The Blue Devils (6-2-1) evened the score three minutes later when Marissa Steele, with an assist from Remy Soulak, scored in the 53rd minute. It was Steele's third goal of the season and Soulak's second assist of the season.

But the Blue Devil defense, which had allowed two goals only once before this season, allowed Viterbo the eventual game-winning goal by Mumm in the 58th minute. Stout was able to get only two more shots off the rest of the way and none on goal.

Stout's Haley Vokaty made two saves, while the V-Hawks' Bergen Beversdorf made three saves. Viterbo held a 12-9 overall shot advantage. Viterbo put five shots on save to Stout's four. The V-Hawks held a distinct lead in corner kicks, an 8-2 advantage.

Stout has a quick turnaround when they host Saint Mary's University, Sunday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
