UW-Stout 1, Concordia-Moorhead 0 | WQOW TV-18 Story

MENOMONIE (September 1, 2021) - In a game of firsts, UW-Stout came out on top of Concordia College-Moorhead with a 1-0 win in the season opener Wednesday at Nelson Field.

Freshman Liv Winkler (Duluth, Minn) scored her first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute of the game, taking a cross pass from a charging Caylee Boone (Sr, Eau Claire) to put the ball into the twine and the Blue Devil defense did the rest. Marissa Steele (Sr, Farmington, Minn) was credited with the second assist.

Julia McNamar (Jr, Janesville) played her first ever game in goal, picking up her first career shutout, after facing only two shots on net.

The Blue Devils (1-0) saw freshmen Winkler, Carly Kauffman (Hanover, Minn), Hailey Kane (Green Bay) and Sydney Rahn (Red Wing, Minn) make their first collegiate starts. And because there was no competition last season, Renae van der Hagen (So, Sauk Rapids, Minn), Alina Swider (So, Milwaukee), Remy Soulak (So, Northfield, Minn), Lexi Boyd (Fr, Buffalo, Minn), Jamie Hensel (So, Woodbury, Minn), Lizzie Leitzel (Fr, Rochester, Minn), Lauren Chukel (Fr, Hudson), Addie Evans (Fr, Kasson, Minn), Abbi Moreland (Fr, Ashland), Allie Rys (Fr, Bartlett, Ill) and Anna Herzog (Fr, Owatonna, Minn) saw their first collegiate action.

Both Stout and Concordia (0-1) faced four total shots each. The Blue Devils put three shots on net, while Concordia put two shots on frame.

The game was Stout's first at Nelson Field in 1050 days, due to the cancellation of the 2020 season and construction on Nelson Field in 2019.

Stout will travel to Benedictine University, Sunday, Sept. 5 for a 4 p.m. contest, then return home to host Carleton College, Tuesday, Sept. 7, St. Scholastica Saturday, Sept. 11 and Cornell College, Sunday, Sept. 12.
