UW-Stout 11, Finlandia 5 (8 inn)
MENOMONIE (May 15, 2021) - UW-Stout found themselves on the short end of the score several times throughout their doubleheader with Finlandia University Saturday, but the Blue Devils found their way back to win both games, 14-6, 11-5, to capture a four-game sweep over the Lions at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (21-17, 16-12 WIAC) trailed 4-3 heading into the sixth inning of the first game, but scored three more runs in the stanza, then added eight more runs over the next two innings for the opening game win. Stout trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth in the second game, but scored six runs in the inning to go ahead and stay ahead.Â
Alex Mahaz pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one hit and one earned to record his third win of the season. In the nightcap,
Brock Burg gave up 11 hits and allowed four runs, but struck out six to earn the win.
Riley Boushack had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 6 in the opener with two RBI, then went 3 for 4 with four RBI in the second game.Â
In game one,
Dan Deis was 3 for 5 and
Joel Thimsen was 3 for 4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Both Thimsen and Boushack had a triple in the opener.

Alex Jinkins,
Kasey Bass,
Levi Wilson and
Reese Vold had two hits as Stout recorded a season-high 20 hits
In the second game, Stout slashed 16 hits, but Finlandia was not far behind with 13. Bass was 3 for 5 and had two doubles. Szykowny and Vold each had two hits. Vold finished the day with four total RBI, two in each game.Â
For the Lions (0-37, 0-28 WIAC), Jordan D'Angelo was 3 for 4 in the first game and Josh Merced was 3 for 5 with three RBI.Â
The second game was called after eight innings due to lightning.
The Blue Devils will play in the first round of the WIAC Championship, presented by Culver's, Wednesday, May 19, when they host UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils earned the No. 4 seed and Oshkosh is the No. 5 seed.Â
