Whitewater takes second consecutive win over Blue Devils

WHITEWATER (February 26, 2021) - UW-Whitewater shot out of the gate building a 28-14 first period lead and kept on going to hand UW-Stout a 77-52 defeat Friday at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (6-2) could hardly miss in the first period, hitting 64.7 percent of their first period shots, including dropping four 3-pointers. Stout (2-6) shot 40 percent (6-15) in the first period and 40 percent (4-10) in the second period, outscoring Whitewater, 15-13, in the second quarter. but it would only be enough to cut the lead to 12 points, 41-29, at halftime. The Blue Devils went cold in the third period, scoring only six points, trailing 56-35 heading into the final stanza.

Haylee Yaeger led Stout with 14 points and collected nine rebounds. Anna Mutch contributed 13 points.

The Warhawks forced 28 Stout turnovers and picked Stout's pocket for 22 steals. Stout did hold a 41-32 advantage in rebounds.

Johanna Taylor led Whitewater with 14 points. Emily Schumacher had 13 points and Adriana Wood 12 points.

The Warhawks defeated Stout Wednesday by a nearly identical 76-51 score. The teams will play again Monday, March 1, in the first round of the WIAC Championship, sponsored by Culver's in Whitewater.
