Pointers exact revenge, double up on Blue Devils

UW-Stevens Point, 6, UW-Stout 3

STEVENS POINT (February 26, 2021) – UW-Stevens Point scored four second period goals and went on to a 6-3 win over UW-Stout Friday at KB Willett Arena.

The Pointers' Zach Zech scored the only goal of the first period. Stout (4-4, 4-3 WIAC) tied the game on Brandon Connett's goal three minutes into the second period before The Pointers (4-3, 4-3 WIAC) started their second period onslaught, which included back-to-back shorthanded goals, including Zech's second goal of the contest. Zech scored at 16:32 shorthanded and less than a minute later Jordan Fader scored a shorty to make it 5-1.

Andrue Trestad scored his first collegiate goal three minutes before the break to make it 5-2. The Pointers' David Hill scored on the power play 2:41 into the final period and Stout cut the lead in half when Matt Dahlseide scored midway through the period.

In contrast to Wednesday's game in Menomonie when Stout snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Pointers with a 4-1 win and there were only two power play opportunities total, this game featured power play chances. Stout was 2-5 on the power play, while the Pointers were 2-3.

Stout's Brennan Kitchen recorded 26 saves, while the Pointers' Ryan Wagner pushed away 24.

Stout will play at UW-Superior, Wednesday, March 3, then will close out the regular season Friday, March 5 by hosting the Yellowjackets.
