MENOMONIE (February 19, 2021) - UW-Stout had eight power play chances, but UW-Eau Claire's penalty kill seemed to be enough throughout the game. Eau Claire continued their hot offense from Wednesday's game against Stout as the Blugolds scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.
To start the game, UW-Stout (3-3-0, 3-3-0 WIAC) and UW-Eau Claire (4-1-0, 4-1-0 WIAC), tried to set up plays to get on the board first. A few scoring chances from both teams, but no goals were accounted for.
But the Blugold's Zach Kennedy found the back of the net with an assist from Cole Paskus. Austin Redders also assisted on the play. The goal was scored 6:33 into the game.
A little less than three minutes later, Derek Hammer from Eau Claire scored to make the game 2-0. Cole Paskus added another assist on the play and Charlie Weland also assisted on the goal.
The Blue Devils had two power play opportunities in the period. For 11 seconds, Stout went on a 5 on 3 power play. But both penalties got killed off by Eau Claire.
Shots in the period were in favor of Stout, 9-6, but it was the Blugolds leading 2-0 on the scoreboard.
In the second, the Blue Devils got on the board only four minutes into the period.
Kobe Keller shot and got it past Blugold's Dyment to make it a one goal game.
Evan Butcher assisted on the goal.
Only 50 seconds after the Stout goal, the Blugolds answered back to make it 3-1. Jon Richards scored for Eau Claire with assists coming from Adam Parsells and Matt Stanton.
At 10:10 of the second period, Eau Claire's Jon Richards scored again to make it a 4-1 game. Assists came from Andrew McGlynn and Jarrad Vroman.
Both teams had chances on the power play, but couldn't find the back of the net. Shots in the period were 11-4 in favor of the Blugolds.
The third period was full of penalties. Eau Claire served six different penalties and Stout served two. Stout had four power play opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the game. But could not find the back of the net as the game remained 4-1. Stout had the next penalty, but the Blue Devil's killed off the penalty.
With 37 seconds left in the game,
Brennan Kitchen left the net to give Stout an extra attacker. The Blue Devil's
Raphael Gosselin took advantage and scored with 17 seconds left in the game.
Riley Jensen and
Vladislav Sorokin had assists on the goal. But the goal was not enough as the Blugolds held onto the lead and took the game 4-2.
Zach Dyment earned the win in net for Eau Claire and had 15 saves on the night.
Brennan Kitchen ended with 18 saves.
