Blugolds come out of halftime break to hand Stout a loss

MENOMONIE (February 12, 2021) - UW-Eau Claire held a 44-29 halftime lead, then came out of the break on a 9-2 run and went on to an 89-71 win over UW-Stout Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Eau Claire (4-0, 4-0 WIAC) took an 11 point lead in the first quarter, then built up the 15 point lead by the break. It became a 20 point Eau Claire lead less than two minutes into the third quarter. Stout got as close as 12 points late in the fourth quarter
 
For the first time this season, the Blue Devils (2-2, 2-2 WIAC) were out-rebounded (35-30) and Stout committed 16 turnovers to 12 for Eau Claire.
 
The Blugolds had five players in double figures, led by Ellie Clayton and Jessie Ruden with 18 apiece. Maizie Deihl scored 16 points, 12 in the second half. Katie Essen finished with 14 and Tyra Boettcher had 11.
 
Eau Claire shot 50.9 percent for the game (29-57) from the floor, 50.0 percent from 2-point range (8-16) and 85.2 percent from the line (23-27).
 
Stout had four players in double digits. Liz Oswald and Tess Johnson each had 15 points. Anna Mutch had 12 points and nine rebounds. Haylee Yaeger matched her uniform number with 10 points.
 
Stout shot 46.6 percent from the floor (27-58), 54.5 percent from 3-point range (6-11) and 64.7 percent from the line (11-17).

Stout will be at UW-La Crosse Wednesday, Feb. 17, then will host the Eagles Friday, Feb. 19.
