Blue Devils drop last minute heartbreaker

UW-Eau Claire 61, UW-Stout 60

MENOMONIE (February 10, 2021) - With the exception of just over three minutes, UW-Stout led the entire game, but UW-Eau Claire pulled out the 61-60 win in the final seconds of the game at Johnson Fieldhouse.

With Stout (1-2, 1-2 WIAC) leading 60-58 in the final minute, the Blugolds' (1-2, 1-2 WIAC) Carter Brooks drove the lane and dished the pass to Cam Kuepers, who nailed the 3-pointer with about 12 seconds left.

There was still plenty of time as Stout called timeout with nine seconds left. Stout worked the ball around and Lovell Williams found Armani Tinsley who put up a 3-pointer that hit the back of the rim and bounced off.

Eau Claire held the lead only over the first two-plus minutes of the game, then briefly grabbed the lead around the seven minute mark of the first half. Stout held an eight point lead, 32-24, with 1:16 left in the first half and held a 33-27 lead at halftime as Tinsley scored 12 before the break.

Tinsley led all scorers with 19 points. Williams added 11 points.

Kuepers and Carter led the Blugolds with 13 points each. David Ijadimbola chipped in 11 points and Brock Voigt added 10.

The teams will meet again Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at McPhee Center.
