UW-Stout 37, UW-Stevens Point 12
MENOMONIE (October 16, 2021) - In the homecoming game for UW-Stout (5-1, 2-1) the Blue Devils defeated the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point (2-4, 0-3) with a score of 37-12.
In the first half, the Pointers started with the ball and the Stout defense held them to a three and out. The three and out gave the Blue Devil's offense great field possession.
The Blue Devil's rushed down the field and in nine plays to give Stout the lead. Stout ran a reverse and
Tyler Seymour threw to a wide open
Levy Hamer in the back of the end zone.
Luke Cool's extra point made the score 7-0.
With back and forth play for most of the half, Stevens Point had an opportunity as they tried a 29 yard field goal, but Stout's special teams blocked the kick to keep the score remained at 7-0.
As time was ticking in the first half, Stout took 10 plays and 47 yards to get to the 31 yard line. With no time remaining,
Jack Meyer kicked a 48 yard field goal into the wind to make the game 10-0 going into halftime.
The second half saw a lot more scoring than the first. In the first possession of the third quarter, Stout marched down the field 68 yards and scored in only four plays.

Sean Borgerding.
On the next possession, the Pointers threw an interception when
Cannon Griner picked off Stevens Point's quarterback which gave Stout great field position. The Blue Devil's possession ended on a
Sean Borgerding touchdown run to make the game 23-0 with 9:27 left in the third quarter. The rest of the third quarter went scoreless.
With 14:26 left in the game, Stout's
Matt Pomietlo rushed for a one yard touchdown to make the game 30-0.
The Pointers got on the board when Trey Schroeder threw a pass into the endzone to Joe Aguilera for a 27 yard score. The extra point was then blocked by Stout's
Nick Arguedas and the game remained at 30-6.
Stout answered right back in a minute and a half when
Carter Fonger rushed five yards into the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown.
During the fourth quarter,
Jack Meyer tried to break the school record with a 57 yard field goal, but left it just short of the field goal post.
Pointer's Joe Aguilera caught his second touchdown pass from Trey Schroeder with only 1:21 left in the game. After the score, the Pointers tried a two point conversion, but was unsuccessful. The game ended with the Blue Devils defeating the Pointers by a score of 37-12.
Sean Borgerding finished the game completing 17 of 33 passes with 205 yards including one touchdown through the air and one on the ground. Pointer's Trey Schroeder came in after an injury and finished with 15 completions and 139 yards including two touchdowns.
Levy Hamer finished the game with five catches for 90 yards. Hamer moves into second on UW-Stout's all-time receiving list, surpassing Mark Rothwell with 2314 yards on 143 career receptions.
On the ground,
Matt Pomietlo led in rushing yards for Stout with 71 yards.
Carter Fonger also rushed for 44 yards.
Stout led the turnover margin after recovering two fumbles and intercepting one.
