Stout scores first, but Eau Claire comes back for win

EAU CLAIRE (October 13, 2021) - UW-Stout scored quickly to take the lead over UW-Eau Claire, but the Blugolds came back to score two goal to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 loss Wednesday at Simpson Field.

The Blue Devils' Lexi Boyd scored a team-best sixth goal in the eighth minute of the game, with an assist from Marissa Steele. 

But the Blugolds  (6-6-2, 1-2-0 WIAC) knotted the score when Emma Stange scored in the 16th minute, then took the lead in the 26th minute on a goal by Anna Kautzman. Kautzman was awarded a penalty kick, where Stout goalkeeper  Haley Vokaty batted the shot away, but Kautzman popped the rebound into the upper left corner.

Both teams peppered their opponent's goal. Eau Claire held a 6-3 lead in shots in the first half and the teams upped the ante in the second half with Eau Claire holding an 8-4 advantage. Both teams put four shots on net in the second half, but neither goalie allowed another ball past the goal line.

Caylee Boone put two shots on goals for Stout, while Hannah Schaetzel put three shots on frame to lead the Blugolds. 

Stout's (9-5-1, 1-2-0 WIAC) Vokaty tallied eight saves, four in each half, and the Blugolds' Anna Sveiven had five saves. 

Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
