Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Pointers score three in each period, down Blue Devils

UW-Stevens Point 9, UW-Stout 1

MENOMONIE (February 7, 2020) - After two weekends on the road, UW-Stout (6-15-1, 5-7-0) took on UW-Stevens Point (13-6-3, 7-2-3) at home. The Blue Devils got on the board first, but the Pointers scored three goals in each period to beat Stout 9-1.

Both teams came out skating hard to try to find that first goal. Only three minutes into the game, Stout's Alex Bowe went on a breakaway, but was stopped only by the post. But a minute after the breakaway, Blue Devil Evan Butcher found the back of the net to give Stout the 1-0 lead at 3:47 of the game. Connor Chambers and Alex Nagel assisted on the play.

It didn't take long for the Pointers to answer back as they scored 5:16 into the game. Jordan Fader beat Brennan Kitchen and the game was tied at 1-1. Stevens Point scored again at 8:11 of the game as Jordan Fader scored his second goal of the game and the Pointers were up by a goal.

At 13:54 of the first period, the first penalty was assessed. Stout went to the box and the Pointers went on the power play. But Stout's penalty kill killed off the penalty.

At 17:18, Stevens Point's Brennen Miller was wide open in the slot and took a shot at nearly an open net. Miller scored his seventh goal of the season to make the game 3-1.

At the end of the period, Stout went on a power play and had a few opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Shots in the first period were in favor of the Pointers 15-6. Stout started the second period on a power play for 53 seconds, but Stevens Point killed off the penalty.

As the Blue Devils were looking to make it a one goal game, at 5:42 of the second period, Stevens Points' Kelly O'Brien scored to make the game a three goal game.

At 9:43 of the period, Pointer's Jake Theis scored to make the game 5-1. About 30 seconds later at 10:16, Stevens Point's Carter Roo scored the Pointers sixth goal of the game.

Going into the second intermission, Stevens Point had a commanding lead at 6-1. Shots were in favor of the Pointer's 27-14.

In the third period, Stevens Point's Colin Raver scored at 6:39 of the period. Brennan Miller scored his second goal of the night for the Pointers at 12:00 and at 16:49 of the period, Ryan MacKellar scored the last goal for Stevens Point.

Eli Billing started the game, got the win, and saved 18 of the Blue Devils shots. Ryan Wagner came in and saved five shots. Blue Devil's Brennan Kitchen recorded 14 saves and Brady Meyers stopped 19 of the Pointer's shots.

Up next for the Blue Devils is another matchup against UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Fanetti Community Center.
