MENOMONIE (January 29, 2020) - UW-Eau Claire began a 16-0 run with just over two minutes remaining in the first half and carried it three minutes in the second half and went on to an 80-54 win over UW-Stout Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (5-14, 1-7 WIAC) moved to within one point, 31-30, on
Luke Geiger's free throws with 2:23 left in the first half, but Eau Claire's (13-6, 4-4 WIAC) Cole Rabedeaux started the run with an old-fashioned 3-point play. Eau Claire ran up to a 41-30 halftime lead after Luke Reader banked a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Eau Claire continued the run into the second half until
Marcus Hill hit a pair of free throws for Stout to cut Eau Claire's lead to 47-32, the closest Stout would get the rest of the way.
The Blugolds shot at a 54.2 percent clip (32-59) for the game from the floor. Stout finished the night shooting 27.3 percent (15-55).Â
Rabedeaux led all scorers with 25 points, 18 in the first half. Reader added 13 points. The Blugolds scored 46 points in the paint, compared to 18 for Stout.Â
Luke Geiger led Stout with 16 points.
Kyle Jackson and
Jon Ciriacks each had 10 points. Ciriacks was held scoreless in the second half.Â
Stout held an advantage at the free throw line, making 19 of 25 (76 percent), while Eau Claire hit 10 of 23 (43.5 percent).
Stout is off until Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they host UW-River Falls and Saturday, Feb. 8 when they host UW-Platteville.Â
