MENOMONIE (January 15, 2020) – UW-Stout held a nine-point halftime lead, but completely blew the game open in the third period as the Blue Devils ran past UW-River Falls, 86-59, Wednesday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.
Led by nine third quarter points by
Liz Oswald and seven points each from
Amber Fabeck and
Katie Christopherson, the Blue Devils (12-3, 3-1 WIAC) outscored the Falcons (4-10, 0-4 WIAC) 30-12 in the quarter after intermission to win their seven straight game at home this season.
Stout at one point held as much as a 32 point lead three minutes into the final quarter.
The Blue Devil bench was a huge factor throughout the game, outscoring the Falcons' bench 44-14. The Blue Devils also went to work in the paint, knocking down 54 points in the paint to 32 for River Falls.
Fabeck led all scorers with 18 points, going 7 of 9 from the floor, including making her only 3-point attempt. Christopherson finished with 14 points, but was a split second away from adding another 3-pointer. Christopherson sank a 3-pointer from three-quarter court, but released the ball a shade past the buzzer and the "nothing-but-net" 3-pointer was waved off.
Haylee Yaeger finished with 11 points. Oswald scored all nine of her points in the third quarter.
Brianna Koop led the Falcons with 15 points and Crystal Pearson had 12 points.
Stout will travel to sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Jan. 18, and then will be at UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Jan. 22.
