LA CROSSE (April 16, 2019) - UW-Stout split with UW-La Crosse Tuesday at Copeland Park, with Stout taking the opener, 7-3, and the Eagles winning the second game, 9-0.
Stout's
Kasey Bass hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the first game to ignite the Blue Devils (11-10, 6-8 WIAC) offense in game one. Stout built up a five run lead in the second inning when
Reid Akerman brought home
Kyle Hamilton and Bass drove in two more runs with a single. The Eagles (15-9, 11-3 WIAC) got on the board with a single run in the fourth, but the Blue Devils added two more runs in the fifth inning when
Caleb Hurt doubled in a run and
Ben Vanhove drew a bases loaded walk to take a 7-1 lead.
In the meantime,
Casey Ryan, making his first collegiate start, was keeping the Eagles at bay. Ryan allowed only three hits through the first seven innings, but got touched for four hits and two runs in the eighth inning. Ryan struck out five for Stout to get the win in his longest collegiate outing.Â
The Blue Devils finished with nine hits in the game. Bass was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. The Eagles also finished with nine hits, with Nate Heili going 2-for-4.

The second game was a completely different story as the Blue Devils could not find home plate. La Crosse scored in the first inning and added three runs in the third inning. La Crosse added single runs in the fifth and seventh recorded three-run sixth inning.
The Blue Devils were not without chances. They left the bases loaded in the second inning and left two on in the eight, leaving 10 on base for the game.
Tommie Nelson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a home run for La Crosse. James Witt went eight innings and struck out six to get the win.
The games were originally scheduled to played in Menomonie, but winter has kept it's grip on Nelson Field and the site was changed.
Stout is scheduled to play at UW-Oshkosh, Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.Â
