UW-Stout 5, UW-Whitewater 4 | UW-Whitewater 8, UW-Stout 2

WHITEWATER (April 15, 2019) - UW-Stout pulled off a come-from-behind win over UW-Whitewater, scoring four runs, including the game-tying run and the game-winning run on suicide squeeze plays, in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 first game win. The Warhawks took an 8-2 win in the second game Monday at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

Trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and just minutes after the Warhawks scored two runs in the top of the seventh, Stout put on their rally caps and pulled off win.

Katelyn Schobert reached with a bunt.  Sommer Kuntsmann and Schobert both were safe on a fielders choice. Following an out, Mary Iliopoulos loaded the bases on her fielder's choice. Schobert scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-2. Kunstmann made it 4-3 when she came home on Kyncaide Diedrich's single, putting iliopoulos on third. Diedrich stole second, putting two of the most dangerous base runners in the WIAC in scoring position.

Jessica Daley put down a bunt to score Iliopoulos on a suicide squeeze to tie the score and Diedrich moved to second. Meghan Kelly put down the second consecutive suicide squeeze and Diedrich beat the throw to give Stout the 5-4 win.

The Warhawks scored two runs in the second inning. Stout cut the lead in half when Diedrich scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. The Warhawks took a 4-1 lead in the seventh with a two-hit inning.

In the second game, the Warhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and stretched it to 6-0 with two runs in the third. Stout added runs in the third and fourth innings, but Whitewater added two more in the fifth. Stout outhit Whitewater, 9-8, but the Blue Devils committed three errors. Diedrich, Kelly and Alicia Meyer each had two hits for Stout.

The games were to be played in Menomonie, but field conditions after a major snowstorm last week forced the move south to Whitewater.
