Blue Devils fall in pair of games with MIAC schools

St. Thomas 3, UW-Stout 0 | Carleton College 5, UW-Stout 1

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 28, 2019) - UW-Stout lost a pair of games to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) schools Thursday at the PFX Athletics Spring Games. The Blue Devils dropped a 3-0 decision to fourth-ranked St. Thomas and a 5-1 decision to Carleton College.

The Blue Devils (8-7) managed only run hit against the fourth-ranked Tommies and St. Thomas (11-2) scored all three of their runs in the second inning. The Tommies took advantage of a Stout error in the third inning with two of the three runs unearned.

Melea Bruns went the distance in the circle for Stout, allowing seven hits, striking out two and stranding six Tommie base runners.

Stout started to get some offense going in the fourth inning. Mary Iliopoulos broke up the no-hitter with a lead off single. Alicia Meyer drew a walk, but both runners were left on base.

Against Carleton, the Knights scored in the first inning, but the Blue Devils knotted the score in the top of the third. Sommer Kunstmann led off the inning with a double and scored on Iliopoulos' one-out triple. Kyncaide Diedrich reached on a single, then stole second but both Blue Devils were left on base.

Carleton (13-3) answered back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, then added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Stout rapped out five hits, with Iliopoulos going 2-for-3 and a walk. . The Knights finished with eight hits, including two home runs.

The Blue Devils will conclude their Florida trip Friday, March 29 when they play the College of New Rochelle and Luther College. Stout was originally scheduled to play Miami University (Hamilton), but injuries forced the small-roster Harriers to withdraw. Stout defeated Hamilton, 5-2, in a rain-delayed late game on Wednesday.
