First game rally falls short, Stout gets second game win

University of Chicago 4, UW-Stout 3 | UW-Stout 5, Miami (Hamilton) 2

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 27, 2019) - Trailing by two runs, UW-Stout's seventh inning rally came up just short of the University of Chicago as the Blue Devils were downed by the Maroons 4-3 Wednesday. Rain pushed games of the PFX Athletics Spring Game back throughout the day and the Blue Devils came back with a 5-2 win over Miami (Hamilton) in a late game..

In Stout's first game of the day which was played eight hours after the originally scheduled time, the Blue Devils' seventh inning rally fell just short. Trailing 4-1 heading into the final inning, Stout's Jessica Daley and Kelly Beck reached base safely on back-to-back middle infield errors. With Korin Hall on third - she came in to run for Daley - Beck stole second to put both runners in scoring position and Kim Labahn, with two outs, unloaded a double to center field to drive in both runs. But the scoring ended there.

Stout opened the game with a run in the first inning after Kyncaide Diedrich reached on an infield single. Diedrich came home on Meghan Kelly's double.

The Maroons tied the score in the bottom of the first, then scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead in te second inning. Chicago scored would prove to be the game-winning run in the fifth inning Maeve Garvey hit her second RBI double of the game.

Kelly took the loss, going four inning, scattering six hits and the first three earned runs. Labahn came on in relief and struck out two, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Diedrich was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils as Stout had five hits to nine for Chicago. Labahn finished with two RBI. Garvey was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Maroons.

The Blue Devils punched out 13 hits in a 5-2 win over Miami University (Hamilton). Meghan Kelly was 3-of-4 with two RBI to lead the way for the Blue Devils. Alicia Meyer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and winning pitcher Labahn drove in a run. Mary Iliopoulos was 2-for-4.

Stout scored in the third but Hamilton tied the game in the fourth. Stout took the lead for good with a single run in the fourth, then added two runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth. The pesky Harriers, who punched out seven hits, scored a run in the seventh and left the bases loaded. Labahn struck out three and allowed one earned run.

The Blue Devils will take on fourth-ranked St. Thomas and Carleton College, Thursday, March 27.
