Baseball team garners sweep over Blackburn College

UW-Stout 5, Blackburn College 4 | UW-Stout 10, Blackburn College 4

CARLINVILLE, Ill. (March 24, 2019) – UW-Stout came back to win game one with two outs in the top of the seventh for a 5-4 win, then carried that momentum forward to sweep Blackburn College, 10-4, Sunday.

Trailing 4-3 with two outs and the bases empty, Stout's Jordan Wilson found a way to get on, hitting the ball to third base and advancing to second on the overthrow to ignite a rally. With two strikes against him, Hunter Merrill plated Wilson with a single, then came home when Kasey Bass reached on an error for the eventual game-winning run.

Sophomore transfer Aaron Plotsky, making his first appearance as a Blue Devil, picked up the complete game win, but had to work himself out of a bit of a jam in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Plotsky hit a batter, but then forced a double play to end the game.

The Blue Devils (5-1) kept the offensive pressure on in the second game, but got some help as Blackburn (2-14) committed six errors.

Stout scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and two in the third to jump out to a 7-1 lead. Blackburn got back into the game with two runs in the bottom of the third to pull to within 7-3.

Stout added two runs in the sixth inning when Jordan Wilson led off the inning with a home run and Kyle Hamilton brought home Joel Thimsen, who had reached on a two-out single. Stout added an unearned run in the seventh inning when Logan Langbehn lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Charlie Szykowny.

Jordan Wilson was 3-for-5 in the second game with three runs scored and an RBI. Kyle Hamilton was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the first game and 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game.  Tyler Seymour and Thimsen were both 2-for-4 in the second game.

Stout will be at Millikin University Monday, March 25, then are scheduled to open conference play with a weekend series at UW-Platteville, March 30-31.
