UW-Whitewater 79, UW-Stout 77
MENOMONIE (February 9, 2019) - In a game that featured nine tied scores, UW-Whitewater's Andre Brown hit a runner with 4.9 seconds left to break up the final tied score and went on to defeat UW-Stout, 79-77, Saturday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.
With the score tied at 77, Brown drove down the right side of the free throw lane and layed in the contested shot. The Blue Devils (6-17, 0-12 WIAC) called two timeouts to set up a play and
Luke Geiger, who had already hit seven 3-pointers, got the call and took a shot from just outside the 3-point line the hit the back of the rim and rolled off as the buzzer sounded.
The score differential in the game was never more than seven points as 3-pointer rained, or reigned. The two teams combined for 25 3-pointers made and combined to shoot 54 3-point attempt. Stout drained 15 3-pointers and Whitewater (15-8, 4-8 WIAC) made 10.
Geiger led all scorers with a career-high 27 points, going 7 of 14 from 3-point range and 9 of 18 overall. Geiger scored 14 points in the second half. Teammate
Jon Ciriacks scored 16 second half points on his way to 24 points, one short of a career-high.
The Warhawks had four players score in double digits, led by Brown's 19, of which six game in the second half. Dalton Menke finished with 15 points and Dave Sachs went 8 of 8 from the free throw line to finish with 11 points. Mitchell Pfeifer also dropped in 11 points.
Stout shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field and 46.9 percent (15-32) from 3-point range. The Warhawks shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the floor and 45.5 percent (10-22) from 3-point range.
The Blue Devils will be at UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Feb. 13, then will close out the season when they host UW-La Crosse for Senior Night.
