UW-Stout 4, UW-Superior 2
MENOMONIE (December 7, 2019) - UW-Stout scored two goals in the first period, but the UW-Superior fought their way back in the second period to tie the game up. Stout scored with 12 seconds left in the second period and added another goal halfway through the third period to win the game 4-2.
In the first period, UW-Stout (2-7-1, 2-2-0 WIAC) took a penalty for too many men on the ice only 2:16 into the game. UW-Superior (6-2-0, 2-2-0) had a couple chances, but the Blue Devils killed off the penalty and looked to get momentum.
And momentum is what they got. At 5:29 of the game, Stout's
Konnar Dechaine scored on a rebound goal to take the 1-0 lead. The first shot came from
Alex Nagel and
Raphael Gosselin also assisted on the play.
Stout was not done scoring in the first period as
Logan Nelson fought for the puck in front of the net to make the score 2-0.

The Blue Devils took another penalty with just under three minutes left to play in the period, but killed off the penalty once again.
The shots were in favor of the Blue Devils 11-6 going into the first intermission.
In the second period, Stout went onto a power play at 5:59. But the Yellowjackets capitalized on a turnover and Dylan Johnson scored a short-handed goal to make the score 2-1.
At 8:43 in the period, Stout went onto another power play, but only eight seconds after, the Blue Devils took a penalty to skate four on four. During the four on four, Superior's Andrew Durham scored his sixth goal of the year to tie the game.
With 2:09 left in the period, both teams skated four on four again, but this time after Stout's player returned to the ice,
Logan Nelson blasted a shot in the net to regain the lead at 3-2. The power play goal came with only 12 seconds left to play in the second period.
After two periods, both teams combined for nine penalties, but the third period saw zero.
With the Blue Devils leading 3-2, it seemed like the next goal would be the deciding factor for both teams. And the next goal was rewarded to Stout to go up two goals. Blue Devil's
Peter Verstegen scored his first goal of his career and Stout was looking at a 4-2 lead.
With only 3:01 left in the period, Superior pulled their goalie, but no goals were accounted for and the Blue Devils won the contest 4-2.
In net,
Brennan Kitchen got the win and made 28 saves. Superior's Oscar Svensson saved 21 shots and also got the loss.
Up next for the Blue Devils is back to back nights against the Falcons of UW-River Falls. The first game will be played at River Falls on Friday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m. The next night, Stout will be the home team and the game will start at 7:00 p.m.
