Shannan Watkins hit her first six consecutive shots - including a pair of 3-pointers - UW-Stout scored their two highest scoring quarters of the season,
Emily Jacques and
Haylee Yaeger each scored their first collegiate double-double and the Blue Devils went on to an 88-47 walk in the sun over Husson University Monday on their final day of the Naples Shootout at Naples Community School.
Watkins went into the second half before missing a shot a. nd finished the afternoon shooting 8 of 10 from the floor with three 3-pointers and free throw to finish with a game-high 20 points.
Jacques joined in the fun, scoring a collegiate-best 13 points and wrapped up a double-double with 11 rebounds. Jacques stepped out to hit her second career 3-pointer and her first since her sophomore season.
Yaeger matched Jacques in both points and rebounds. Yaeger was 4 for 14 from the floor and made all five of her free throw attempts, a spot the Blue Devils excelled in today. Stout dropped in 17 of 19 free throws.
Lizzy Olsem also scored in double figures, the second time this season Stout had four players score in double figures. Olsem scored 11 points and made all three of her free throw attempts.
The Blue Devils (9-2) jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first period, the fewest points allowed in a single quarter since holding Crown College to three points in the final quarter of an 83-40 win Dec. 7, 2018. The five first quarter points were the fewest allowed in an opening stanza since Stout limited Northland College to five points in the first quarter of a 68-26 win, Dec. 2, 2017.
Stout scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 41-15 halftime lead. The Blue Devils scored 30 third quarter points, the most scored in a single quarter this season, to roll to a 71-33 lead at the end of three quarters.
Stout played 14 players and 11 scored. Stout controlled the game off the boards, pulling down a season-high 57 rebounds to 31 for Husson.
The Eagles (4-6) were led by Bailey Donovan with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The game marked the Blue Devils' final non-conference game of the season. Stout will open conference play Saturday, Jan. 4 when they host UW-Platteville at 3 p.m. While the Blue Devils defeated the Pioneers in the first round of the WIAC playoffs last season, Platteville holds a four-game conference winning streak over the Blue Devils.
