UW-Stout 67, Viterbo University 62
LA CROSSE (December 14, 2019) -
Shannan Watkins scored 23 points and feasted at the free throw line as the UW-Stout senior nailed 13-of-15 from the free throw line to down Viterbo University, 67-62.
In a contrast to the Blue Devils' last outing at nationally ranked Wartburg College, the Blue Devils took advantage at the free throw line, dropping 21 of 29 free throw attempts through the twin. Wednesday, the Blue Devils had only four free throw attempts, and those did not come until the fourth quarter.
The free throws offset Stout's 3-point shooting, where the Blue Devils (6-2) were 0 for 11 from beyond the arc, while the pesky V-Hawks dropped in 7 of 18.
Stout trailed 29-27 at halftime, but used a strong third period to take a two-point lead at the end of the stanza, shooting 61.5 percent, while limiting Viterbo to 27.3 percent in the frame.Â
Amber Fabeck scored 13 points for the Blue Devils and collected a double double with 10 rebounds. The Blue Devils were tough in the paint this afternoon, scoring 40 points inside and also held a decided 45-27 advantage off the boards.
Lindsey Johnson made her second consecutive start, collecting career-bests in points (6), rebounds (8) and assists (4).
Madison Lindauer led Viterbo with 15 points and Alyssa Nillson scored 14 points.
Stout will host the University of Dubuque, Friday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m.
