WHITEWATER (November 9, 2019) - UW-Stout trailed by only one score at halftime as the Blue Devil defense put the clamps on No. 3 UW-Whitewater, but the Warhawks outscored Stout (3-6, 2-4 WIAC) 24-14 in the second half and went on to a 37-17 win to put a stop to the Blue Devils' winning streak Saturday at Perkins Stadium.

Whitewater (9-0, 6-0 WIAC) were the first to put up points as Wojciech Gasienica kicked one through the uprights for a 28 yard field goal to go up 3-0 with 8:32 left in the first quarter. WIth 2:48 left in the first quarter, the Warhawks went onto punt, but the Stout special team's unit blocked the punt and covered the ball. Stout's offense would start on the Warhawk's 23 yard line.

The Blue Devils offense went out, but Whitewater's defense held Stout to only four yards. Alec Benzinger kicked a 36 yard field goal to tie the game up at 3-3 to end the first quarter.

On the next possession, the Warhawks offense found their stride and only took four plays to score. Whitewater scored on a five yard run by Zach Oles with 14:51 left in the first half.

During the second quarter, both teams turned the ball over, but neither team could capitalize on their opportunity. As time was expiring in the first half, Whitewater's Gasienica kicked a 41 yard field goal to make the score 13-3 in favor of the Warhawks going into halftime.

Stout received the first in the second half, but the Warhawks defense continued to flex their muscles. Whitewater forced a three and out and Stout punted the ball away.

Just like the first half, Gasienica was busy in the second as well. On Whitewater's first possession of the second half, Gasienica kicked a 38 yard field goal to make the score 16-3.

But Stout was not backing down. The Blue Devils took a drive all the way down to Whitewater's one yard line and Sean Borgerding went in for the score on a quarterback sneak with 1:25 left in the third quarter.

After Stout made the score 16-10, Warhawk's Max Meylor scored on their next possession on an 18 yard run to make it a two score game.

A lot of back and forth play by both teams continued. Stout's Borgerding threw a ball to Parker Fossum for a 28 yard connection in the endzone to make the score 23-17.

But Whitewater would end the game with 14 unanswered points. With 8:04 left in the game, Ryan Wisniewski caught a seven yard pass from Max Meylor for a touchdown. And with 2:25, Wisniewski caught another pass from Meylor, this time for 14 yards to make the final score 37-17.

Borgerding finished the game with 209 yards passing with a touchdown.

Warhawk's Max Meylor threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Oles also threw for 58 yards.

Parker Fossum finished with six receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. Kevion McDonald had four receptions for 41 yards.

Whitewater's Wisniewski led the team with 11 receptions and 151 yards receiving. Wisniewski also had two touchdowns.

Up next for Stout is the War on I-94 and season finale against UW-Eau Claire. The game will be played at Carson Park in Eau Claire at 1:00pm.
