MENOMONIE (November, 1 2019) - In the first game of the year, Stout (0-1-0) made a two goal comeback, but fell to Bethel (1-0-0). With only 48 seconds left to play in the game, Jarrett Cammarata came up big for the Royals and scored on a power play goal.
In the first period, the Blue Devils came out firing and were outshooting Bethel 5-0. But the Royals were the first one to score. The goal came on Bethel's first shot of the game and was scored 3:30 into the game. The goal was scored by Luke Posner of the Royals and the goal was unassisted.
With 11:36 left in the first period, Bethel created their first penalty and the Blue Devils headed onto their first power play of the season. Stout only had a couple shots on net and Bethel killed the penalty off.
Bethel capitalized on their penalty kill and used that momentum to score another goal. At 12:22 of the first period, the Royal's Luke Posner scored his second goal of the game to make the game 2-0. Nick Ketola and Tyler Mros assisted on the goal.
The Royals went on their first power play of the game with 4:29 left in the game. During the penalty kill, Stout's
Kobe Keller skated through some Bethel players and went on a breakaway. While Keller was on the breakaway, a Bethel player hooked Keller and a penalty was forced. The play forced a four on four, but both teams couldn't capitalize.
Going into the first intermission, Bethel went into the locker room up 2-0 and shots were 11-8 in favor of the Blue Devils.
The second period was a lot of back and forth play. With 3:14 into the second period, Stout took a penalty and Bethel went onto another power play. But the Blue Devils showed stout defense and killed off the penalty. About 3:30 minutes after the penalty kill, both teams went onto skate four on four. Stout played most of the four on four on offense, but no goals were accounted for.
With 7:27 left in the second period, Bethel went onto their third power play attempt. Stout came up big again and killed off the penalty. With the momentum going Stout's way, the Blue Devils finally got on the board. Only 50 seconds left in the period, Vlad Sorokin scored his first career goal to cut the score in half, 2-1.
Raphael Gosselin came up with the assist on the score.
At the end of the second period, Stout led the Royals in shots at 29-19.
Out of the gate in the third period, the Blue Devils were trying to even up the score. Bethel took a penalty and Stout was heading for a power play. With scoring chances for the Blue Devils, the Royals ended up killing the power play.
With 10:34 left to play in the game,
Lucas Carroll scored the game tying goal for the Blue Devils.
Raphael Gosselin and
Alec Skar got the assists on the tying goal.
Both teams fighting for the win, Bethel's Luke Posner went on a breakaway with 3:48 left to play in the game to try and go for the hat-trick. But Stout's
Brennan Kitchen had other plans and made the kick save on a shot.
The Blue Devils made a costly mistake and had to be one man short with only 54 seconds left to play. The Royals went on another power play and this time came up with a goal. Only six seconds into the power play, Bethel's Jarrett Cammarata took a shot from the slot and got it past Kitchen. Johan Kling and Dylan Giorgio got the assists on the game winning goal.
Stout called a timeout at 40 seconds and pulled their goalie, but the Royals held off Stout to spoil the Blue Devils home opener.
Brennan Kitchen took the loss and made 24 saves. Ridge Gerads had 34 saves and getting the win.
Up next for the Blue Devils is a matchup between the Sabers of Marian University. The game will be played at Fond du Lac on November 2nd at 7pm. The next home game is next week, November 8th against St. Thomas at 7pm in the Fanetti Community Center.
