Blue Devils score six in shutout of Yellowjackets

UW-Stout 6, UW-Superior 0

MENOMONIE (September 8, 2018) – The Blue Devils scored three goals in each half to take a 6-0 win over the UW-Superior Yellowjackets Saturday at Nelson Field. Each goal came from a different Blue Devil, along with five assists in the game.

Lindsay Penkala got things started in the ninth minute, scoring on a 15-yard cross from Sydney Kasper, putting the ball in the box, allowing Penkala to knock it in from the right side. Shortly after, Marissa Steele launched the ball from center field, giving Lexi Fernandez the opening for a shot outside the box and score at the 10:27 mark.

Stout (2-2-0) kept rolling at the 15th minute, as Steele owned the middle of the box, scoring unassisted to make it a 3-0 game. The Blue Devil defense held a strong long through the half and Superior (0-2-1) to only one shot in the first 45 minutes.

Kasper scored just 10 minutes into the second half, getting the pass from Katie Sukanen and putting the ball in from 15 yards. Just moments later, Sukanen scored in the left-side of the box on a pass from Faith Dube, making it a 5-0 game in just 60 minutes.

The final goal of the game came from Ariel Kuchta on the left side after a centering pass from Allison Klotz, the game was sealed 6-0 at the 82:50 mark.

Goal keeper Claudia Anderson moved to 2-2-0 on the season, making three saves in 45 minutes for the Blue Devils, Melissa Ferrisse saw the last 45 minutes of action. Stout held the lead in both shots (24-3) and corner kicks (7-1).

Stout will travel to Carleton College tomorrow afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest with the Knights, and then return home for a 7 p.m. game with the Bethel Royals September 11.
