Stout rallies to close out three-set sweep

UW-Stout 3, Hamline University 0

MENOMONIE (September 25, 2018) - After UW-Stout won the first two sets, the third set turned into a nail-biter and the Blue Devils trailed Hamline University midway through the third set. But a rally with seven straight points put the Blue Devils back into the lead and Stout went on to 3-0 win in the home opener Tuesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (7-7)  trailed by as much as 17-13 in the third set, but Stout rallied with two kills by Kennedy Strain, and single kills by Jessica DuVal and Lexie Nelson, along with a block by Nelson and Strain to take a 20-17 lead as Summer Garr served during all seven points in the run. The Pipers came back to tie the set at 22, but a kill by Nelson and a couple of errors by the Pipers gave Stout a 25-23 win and the match.

The Blue Devils took the match 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.

The second set was close throughout the match as Stout only trailed after the first point and the Pipers did tie the set at 16. Emily Bialka, who finished the night with eight kills, had seven in the second set.

Strain led the way with 11 kills and Nelson had nine. Strain had a solo block and an assisted block.

The Pipers (6-7) got nine kills from Sydney Larson and eight from Madi Hurrle.

The Blue Devils have a quick turnaround, hosting UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
