ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 21, 2018) - In all three sets, UW-Stout needed to exert a lot of energy to make a comeback, but ultimately the Blue Devils dropped all three sets at Bethel University Friday.
The teams met last week at the Bethel University Invitational with the Royals giving Stout a 3-0 loss, taking a 26-24, 25-18, 25-17 decision.
In Friday's rendition, Stout came back from a 20-12 deficit in the first set.
Lexie Nelson started the Blue Devils' roll with a service ace.
McKylie Hoff answered with a kill. Nelson had two kills and an assisted block in the run, as did
Kennedy Strain.
Jessica DuVal provided a kill to tie the score at 23 before Bethel took a one point lead. Nelson and Strain tied the score with a combined block, but the Royals took the final two points and the set.
Stout trailed by as much as 17-5, then pulled to within 19-16 to make a game of it. The Royals closed out the set on a 6-2 run. Stout trailed by as much as 10 points in the third set, but could only get as close as seven points.
Strain led Stout with 11 kills and three assisted blocks. Nelson finished with nine kills and two assisted blocks.
Marie Claflin led the Royals with eight kills. Bethel finished the night with three solo blocks and 18 assisted blocks. Karen Canfke had six assisted blocks, Macie Gavic five and Claflin three.
Stout returns to action next week with three home matches. The Blue Devils host Hamline University, Tuesday, Sept. 25, UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Sept. 26 and UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Sept. 29.
