St. Catherine 3, UW-Stout 0
MENOMONIE (September 1, 2018) - After an early shot on goal, UW-Stout could not get into an offensive rhythm and were defeated 3-0 by St. Catherine University Saturday at Nelson Field.
Just minutes into the game, Stout (1-1-0) freshman
Marissa Steele attacked the net, but was stopped by Wildcat (1-0-0) goalie Tayler Koop. Shortly thereafter, St. Catherine scored their first goal of the game when a corner kick by Iryna Talkachova deflected into the net in the seventh minute of the game.
The teams parried throughout the rest of the first half, but most of the half was played in the Stout zone as the Wildcats outshot Stout, 5-1, in the first half. The shot deficit would deepen in the second half.
St. Catherine's Allie Bird scored unassisted in the 58th minute and the Wildcats put the game away in the 72nd minute on a goal by Sofia Campbell. All three goals were unassisted. St. Kate's held a 16-3 bulge in shots when the final horn sounded.
Claudia Anderson recorded six saves for the Blue Devils, while Stout put two shots on frame.
The Blue Devils will host St. Mary's University, Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and UW-Superior, Saturday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
